Mouth taping at night

Updated: Mar 31

Why I love mouth taping!

1. Encourages Nasal Breathing: By sealing the mouth, we're promoting breathing through the nose. Our noses are not just for smelling roses; they act as a natural filter, ensuring that the air reaching our lungs is cleaner and warmer.

2. Boosts Nitric Oxide Levels: Here's where it gets intriguing. Breathing through the nose amplifies the production of nitric oxide, a molecule essential for various body functions. Notably, it aids in vasodilation, ensuring efficient oxygen flow throughout our system.

3. Better Sleep Quality: With the mouth closed, occurrences like snoring or episodes of sleep apnea reduce. This means you're more likely to sleep soundly through the night- Deep sleep! (Check your Oura ring data!)

4. Oral Health: A closed mouth retains moisture, reducing the risk of dry mouth which can be a precursor to dental issues.

Mouth breathing is a silent contributor to various health problems:

Dry Mouth: This can up the ante for dental cavities and gum diseases.

Sleep Disturbances: Snoring and sleep apnea are more frequent among mouth breathers, curtailing the quality of rest.

Decreased Oxygen Absorptionq: Our noses are designed to warm and humidify the air, making oxygen absorption in the lungs more efficient. Mouth breathing bypasses this process.

Who should mouth tape and who should avoid it?

Good candidates:

- Individuals without respiratory challenges.

- Anyone aiming for better sleep quality.

- Those intrigued by the benefits of increased nitric oxide.

Not ideal for:

- People with severe nasal obstructions.

- Those with certain respiratory diseases.

- Individuals uncomfortable with the idea of taping their mouth.

Deep, undisturbed sleep isn't just about feeling refreshed. It's our body's repair time, crucial for memory, cognition, and immunity. With strategies like mouth taping, we're fortifying our defense against numerous ailments.

From my own experience, mouth taping has been a game-changer. It took some getting used to, but the rewards — deeper sleep, increased energy, and a noticeable boost in well-being — are undeniable.

If you're considering giving it a shot, I'd suggest starting slow. Maybe try it during a nap first. And, of course, always consult with a healthcare professional if you have concern! My favorite mouth tape is here.

Here's to breathing right and sleeping tight!
